Relax by the river

22/11/2023

Melkhout is a gorgeous dairy farm (with lots of friendly cows) along the Breede River., a few km from Bonnievale.

We fell asleep and woke to the gushing river and bird life.

The sites are semi-private, medium sized with a wooden gazebo that has a washing sink and private ablutions – and a deck overlooking the river.

Our site 5 was quite shady and close to the rapids, so if you want to swim, or fish, you’d need to walk upstream.

Hot water, private ablutions electricity and Wi-Fi made it super comfortable.

If your allergy sensitive, bring antihistamines. Although we had no issues with mozzies or flies.

Lizahn is a lovely, friendly host and we arrived to a basket of homemade bread, fresh milk and butter. Is there anything better?

It can get a bit breezy so make sure you pack in a wind shield. Oh, and a braai grid :)

If you’re looking for tranquility in nature, Melkhout is it!
