Campsite Overview
Thomas River, named in 1801, takes its name from an English deserter, Thomas Bentley. Part of Van Der Kemps missionary, Bentley was killed by a poison Bushman Arrow while crossing the river, thus duly named Thomas River. It is situated halfway between Stutterheim and Cathcart, about an hour and 20 minutes drive from East London.
Accommodation includes self-catering cottages, dormitory-style backpackers, semi-detached double en-suite bedrooms, as well as various caravan and tenting sites. The sites have 2 ablutions blocks are either with or without electricity.
In this historical town, you are invited to explore the village at your leisure including the Private Library, Wagon Museum, Cultural Museum, Motor Museum and the many other quirky and interesting collections throughout the Ramble Restaurant and Pub.
