Campsite Overview
Transkaroo Campsite is a private campsite situated on a farm on Matroosberg Station, on the R318 between De Doorns and Touwsrivier.
This large, tented campsite can accommodate up to 6 guests in total. The campsite has a bathroom with a shower, a separate basin, and a separate toilet. The shower has large windows that can open so you can take in the beauty of nature while showering. Guests are required to bring their own linen and towels.
The campsite has a covered kitchenette area, equipped with a fridge-freezer, 2-plate stove, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There is a table with seating for 4 people as well as a workspace on a counter.
Guests can relax under the trees around the cozy braai area and relax in the wood-burning hot tub. There is a swimming pool near the campsite which also sometimes, after rain, has the most beautiful waterfall. The farm is large and guests can cycle, walk or just relax at the campsite.

Most dissapointed camping experience ever!
Camping on a farm you would expect to be careful in the bushes for snakes. However, this was a total different wild animal. Upon arriving, the manager informed us that our dogs shouldn’t sleep outside as there is a mountain leopard in the area. And thankfully he did as on our second night while sitting outside, our dogs was very uneasy and growled. We felt uneasy as if being watched and decided to rather make it an early night. The next morning we found leopard tracks in the camp. From there on we didn’t stay out after sunset as we heard of many incidents where leopards attack pets or children if they get a gap. This uneasy feeling and dogs growling happened again on our 5th night. As if that isn’t enough, the drains had a problem, the swimming area was filthy and full of green slime and the hottub was green on the bottom. The fridge is also in sunlight half the day making it hard for the fridge to realy cool anything and we lost some of our food that went bad. After showering we discovered that the shower water leaks through to the toilet making it hard not to get your feet or shoes wet after showering. Overall this was the worst camping experience ever and the only reason we stayed our full booking was not to lose all the money (which was overpriced considering everything) paid. I write this mainly as I don’t want it on my concience if someone comes to this campsite and loses a child or pet.
